Values
The National Performance Network upholds the performing arts as a vital expression in society. NPN supports residencies, commissions, community cultural development projects and other artistic activities that value:
Artists: We value individual artists and arts companies as professionals who provide valid and important work.
Arts organizers: We value arts organizers who make it possible for artists and communities to meet in a mutually supportive and appreciative manner.
Communities: We value communities as collections of people who share cultural heritages, philosophies, or geographic locations, and we value the need for communities to experience art that speaks to their issues.
Partnerships: We value partnerships among artists, arts organizers and organizations, and communities that create opportunities for artistic expression and deepen the general public’s relationship with art.
Freedom of expression: We value the unhindered flow of ideas, words and images as basic to a free society.
Critical dialogue: We value dialogue that fosters appreciation for the creative process and the role of the arts and culture in society.
Life-long learning: We value life-long learning through the exposure to and participation in the arts.
Diversity: We value points-of-view and experiences that are shaped by each individual’s unique background, and we value art that celebrates diversity.
Public and private support of the arts: We value the funding support that recognizes that the performing arts are integral to a healthy society.
