CD Forum’s mission is present and produce African-American cultural programs that encourage thought and debate for the greater Seattle area. The CD Forum serves a broad range of communities in the Seattle area that include artists, audience members, volunteers, donors, academics, students, writers and many others. They are intellectually and artistically curious and open to new perspectives presented through the lens of the African-American experience. Our constituents are diverse economically, culturally and geographically; drawing people from not just Seattle, but also from Tacoma, Eastern Washington and British Columbia, Canada.
The CD Forum presents humanities and performing arts programs. Our performing arts presenting series has two branches. The first is a national performing arts series whereby we present work by touring, national performing artists. The second involves work with the local community where we present, produce and commission work by local performing artists. Our national performing arts series focuses on African-American/African Diaspora touring artists presenting high-quality contemporary work that will challenge our audience’s perspectives about African-American art. The CD Forum places no limitations or pre-conditions prescribed by race on our artists. The work we present showcases artists who are: - creating contemporary work that is innovative and distinctive; - emerging, under-recognized as well as established artists; and - reflecting the breadth of styles within African-American/African Diaspora culture.
