Flynn Center for the Performing Arts
153 Main Street
Burlington, VT 05401

The Flynn Center for the Performing Arts is a non-profit, community-based cultural center dedicated to the appreciation and understanding of the performing arts through the presentation of a diverse range of high-quality performances that expand the community’s cultural experiences. The Flynn produces annually a 40+ event season of dance, music, theatre and multidisciplinary work in its 1450-seat theatre. In addition, the Flynn has developed a 150-seat black-box which is dedicated to contemporary and experimental genres and jazz, new music, theater and dance events with regional and national artists; a 30+ performance Student Matinee Series with companion in-school workshops; the nationally recognized Discover Jazz Festival; a Summer Arts Development Project, which provides creation time, space and commissioning for new works; FlynnArts, an all-ages, year-round education program dedicated to the fostering of the creative spirit; and year-round humanities-centered and community-interactive outreach.

Anchored in the specifics of the Burlington, Vermont community, the Flynn seeks to fulfill its mission by curating a season that builds audiences for the art forms in which it has invested over the last twenty-plus years: contemporary dance, innovative theater, jazz/new music, and eclectic world forms. Artistic selection is done through contact with other presenters, agents/managers, and artists, and by seeing new work. Both the selection and planning are guided by the Flynn’s artistic director, Arnie Malina.
