Living Arts of Tulsa is the longest standing nonprofit contemporary art center in Oklahoma dedicated to presenting and developing contemporary art forms in Tulsa. It is interested in newly evolving ideas and in sharing its interests with the surrounding community by encouraging the public to attend and participate in creative workshops, performances, exhibitions, films, demonstrations of current art, lectures, related educational activities and research. Since 1969 it has considered art basic and its functional development essential to each person’s full development. It strives to help create an environment in which art may thrive. It strives to be aware, informed and an active participant in cultural history-in-the-making.
Living Arts selects presenting artists by proposals reviewed by program committees intentionally made up of a diverse group of artists from the community and through on-site visits by the Artistic Director. A "Call for Proposals" is sent out each summer and proposals are accepted through the deadline each year. The Artistic Director and the Programming Committees make aesthetic decisions while the Administrative Director and the Board of Directors determine financial considerations. Living Arts currently has Programming Committees in the following areas: Exhibitions, Performance, New Music, Film and Video, New Genre Festival, Dia de Los Muertos, Tulsa ArtCar Weekend, and Education. Living Arts programs events from one year to three years in advance.
